Margit Kohl Obituary

Margit Kohl of Maynard left us in the early morning of March 29. She was with her three children and passed quietly in her sleep. She was known for her spunky spirit, her strong friendships, and genuine appreciation for every kindness given to her. Margit came to the US from Denmark back in 1958, fell in love with a German here, married, and had three children. The couple soon assembled a US "family", adopting local parents as well as maintaining closeness with the "sister" and "brother" each had travelled here with from Europe. When her husband passed away several years later, Margit was left with three young children and no financial support. Nevertheless, all three children never lacked for food or shelter and always felt an abundance of love. Margit modeled the behaviors she expected; studying shorthand to become a secretary and later US History to become a citizen. Margit was always on the go, and traveled broadly with her family and later-in-life partner, Clarence. She was 'power-walking' before the term existed, and later became known throughout her neighborhood as the lady with the walking sticks once those sticks became necessary. Margit never lost any mental acuity, and was both intimidating and inspiring in her play of Words with Friends and LetterPress, playing competitors (with whom she of course made friends) from around the world.

Margit leaves three loving offspring, four adoring grandchildren, various family in Denmark and Scranton, PA, and innumerable friends around the world. Her memory will be cherished by many, and she will be missed.
